Max Abelson

Max Abelson is the host of “The Businessweek Show,” the world’s first late-night talk show about business and culture, and a finance reporter for Bloomberg News. He’s also a longtime contributor to Bloomberg Businessweek, where his features and cover stories span the landscape of money and power.
Since joining Bloomberg at the end of 2010, his reporting has focused on Wall Street’s culture–including race, gender, historic lawsuits, secret settlements, billionaire ego and political connections. His writing has also branched out past big banks to include stories about the rise and fall of Donald Trump’s troubled businesses, the impact of Covid on New Yorkers, the history of junk bonds, and comedy.
Previously, he was a New York Observer reporter for five years, and a Yale Daily News arts editor. His honors include a 2021 New York Press Club award and Longform’s Best of 2020, and his work was included in Columbia University Press’ Best Business Writing in 2013 and 2015. He volunteers as an editor for incarcerated journalists through the Prison Journalism Project, and as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
