LONDON, November 27 – Bloomberg News today announced that award-winning broadcaster and journalist Mishal Husain is joining as Editor-at-Large on Bloomberg Weekend Edition. In this new role, Mishal will host a brand new flagship multi-platform global interview series, to be launched with audio, video and in digital, as a central feature of Bloomberg’s recently launched weekend offering. She will also work on other editorial projects for the global news brand.

She joins Bloomberg from the BBC, where she presented its leading news programme Today on BBC Radio 4 for over a decade. Before joining Today in 2013, she was an anchor on BBC World News and has also been a familiar face to UK audiences on the main national news programmes. She was previously based in Washington and Singapore as an anchor for the BBC. Mishal has fronted several critically acclaimed documentaries and was earlier this month awarded the Charles Wheeler Award for Outstanding Contribution to Journalism, by the British Journalism Review.

Mishal has written two books, most recently a family memoir: ‘Broken Threads: My Family From Empire to Independence’, which became a Sunday Times Top Ten bestseller in hardback.

Mishal Husain said: ‘I am delighted to be fronting a new interview show that will reach audiences in different formats as part of the exciting plans for Bloomberg Weekend Edition. Ours is an ever more complex world but the desire for thoughtful conversations crosses all borders. I look forward to working with a new team at Bloomberg – the place which gave me my first job in journalism’.

David Merritt, Head of Media Editorial, Bloomberg said: ‘Mishal is one of the UK’s preeminent news broadcasters and journalists and she is recognised globally for her incisive but fair interview style. Mishal started her career in television at Bloomberg, and we are delighted to welcome her back for an exciting new global chapter’.

Mishal joins Bloomberg in early 2025 and will be working exclusively for the news brand, based in Bloomberg’s European headquarters in London and reporting into Katherine Bell, Executive Editor of Bloomberg Weekend Edition.

Bloomberg Weekend Edition launched in October, with a focus on content across an intersection of finance, life and culture, providing its global subscribers with dedicated content beyond the working week. The new weekend product can be accessed via the consumer website: Bloomberg.com, the Bloomberg app, as well as on the Bloomberg Terminal. Tapping into Bloomberg’s newsroom of 2900 journalists and analysts, the new weekend offering features essays, reviews, interviews, enterprise stories and multimedia features, along with Saturday and Sunday newsletters and a narrated audio playlist.

Bloomberg Media’s subscriber base recently reached 760,000 – six years since launching the global news consumer subscription business.
