The brand is also announcing a slate of new features and partners
June 21, 2022 – Bloomberg Green, the global multi-platform news brand focused on climate change news, analysis, and solutions, will debut a new slate of features for its third year: a new Quicktake show, “Getting Warmer with Kal Penn”, hosted by actor and former White House aide, Kal Penn; a new podcast, “Zero”, hosted by Bloomberg Green senior reporter, Akshat Rathi; updated areas of climate coverage; and the inaugural Green Docs competition in Los Angeles.
“Our goal with Bloomberg Green has always been to be a trusted destination for climate-focused news in business and society,” said Lauren Kiel, General Manager, Bloomberg Green. “We’re excited to introduce this new slate of features to talk about these important issues at scale, including our new show hosted by Kal Penn. His ability to break these issues down at a macro level by connecting entertainment and humor with climate solutions and impactful policy, makes him a unique and perfect fit for this new show and our audience.”
“GETTING WARMER WITH KAL PENN”
Anchored by actor and former White House aide Kal Penn, Bloomberg’s exclusive new show about climate, clean energy and business will premiere in October 2022. The show will build on the award-winning reporting from Bloomberg Green’s global team of climate journalists.
“I’m excited to launch ‘Getting Warmer’ with Bloomberg Green and celebrate cleaner technologies that will benefit our planet,” said Kal Penn. “We’ll explore the critical topics connected to climate change and connect audiences to a better understanding of the ways policymakers, consumers, and businesses can tackle these issue together.”
Viewers of “Getting Warmer with Kal Penn” will accompany the host on his journey as he takes an up-close look at bold climate solutions around the world and discovers new facets of the global transition to clean energy. Penn and the team behind the show will chronicle the innovators, researchers, communities and businesses pivoting to new energy sources and adapting to a new climate reality. Expert guests will examine the climate impact of everything from crypto to batteries and water conservation to carbon removal, while Penn breaks down the big challenges and meets the people spearheading low-carbon technologies.
The show will air on the Bloomberg Quicktake network and on-demand.
“ZERO” PODCAST
Hosted by Bloomberg Green senior reporter Akshat Rathi, “Zero” will be the premiere weekly podcast focused on interviews with the business leaders, investors, policymakers, and innovators whose near-term decisions—choices being made right now—will shape the transition to the carbon-free future.
The 10 largest economies in the world are now committed to reach zero emissions within decades. So, too, have most major companies and the financial institutions managing $100 trillion in assets. Zeroing out planet-warming pollution by the second half of this century requires concrete actions today.
“Zero” will launch in the fall of 2022 and can be found wherever listeners get their podcasts.
GREEN DOCS COMPETITION
Announced last year, the inaugural Bloomberg Green Docs competition is now open to all eligible filmmakers who would like to compete to win a $25,000 grand prize for their short climate documentary.
The five finalists and winner will be announced at a special event on October 26, 2022, where their documentaries will be screened exclusively in Los Angeles. More information on the competition and the jurors who will award the grand prize can be found here.
NEW CLIMATE COVERAGE
Bloomberg Green is also expanding the scope of its journalism, with the first update to the categories on its homepage since launch. Coverage areas will now include New Energy, ESG Investing, Weather & Science, Electric Vehicles, Climate Politics, Cleaner Tech and – in a major push into consumer climate solutions – Greener Living. “Reporting on the transformation of everyday life as our economies shift towards lower emissions is going to be one of the biggest and most exciting stories of all,” said Aaron Rutkoff, the editor of Bloomberg Green. The team of journalists is also growing with the addition of climate solutions reporters Zahra Hirji and Todd Woody as well as Greener Living Editor Kira Bindrim, along with additional hires to come.
“In the last three years since we launched Bloomberg Green, our team of journalists has produced award winning and groundbreaking coverage on climate from emissions reporting to solutions journalism. As Green evolves, we are continuing to find new ways to tell these stories across platforms and coverage areas, including shows, podcasts, and events as we strive to be the definitive resource for climate change and all its implications,” said John Fraher, Head of ESG and Energy News at Bloomberg News.
Partners for Bloomberg Green in 2022 include: General Motors, Holcim, McKinsey & Company, and SAP. These companies — together representing the auto, building, consulting, and tech industries — have committed to supporting Bloomberg Green across its third year in an effort to address critical issues related to climate and sustainability. This includes participation in the Bloomberg Green Council, sponsorship of media and events, as well as unique custom content and integrations created by Bloomberg Media in collaboration with each Partner.
- “SAP is excited about the opportunities we can create working with Bloomberg Green as a premier partner,” said Julia White, SAP Chief Marketing and Solutions Officer and member of the Executive Board. “We want to create a positive impact by enabling businesses to run more sustainably. Bloomberg Green’s industry coverage, events, and reach will help us tell our powerful story. Sustainability is a team sport and it’s great to be on the field with the best in the business.
- “Holcim is at the forefront of the building sector’s green transformation with a focus on circular construction. With cities driving our world’s shift towards circular living, we decided to partner with Bloomberg Green to deepen our understanding of this critical area,” said Nollaig Forrest, Group Head of Communications & Public Affairs. “ Together we developed the Circular Cities Barometer to share unique insights into what the most advanced circular cities are doing to accelerate the shift from a linear ‘take-make-waste’ economy to a circular ‘reduce-reuse-recycle’ one. We are excited to be sharing these best practices as broadly as possible with Bloomberg to fast-track the transition to circular living.”
