Wong joins Bloomberg from Federal Reserve Board; Fed veterans Bill Dudley, David Wilcox also joined U.S. Economics team in August
WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 1, 2021) — Today, Bloomberg Economics announced the appointment of Anna Wong as its Chief U.S. Economist. She was most recently a Principal Economist at the Federal Reserve Board, where she worked since 2016.
At Bloomberg, Wong will lead on analysis of the U.S. economy, including coverage of the Federal Reserve as policy makers attempt an exit from the extraordinary COVID-era stimulus.
In addition to her work at the Federal Reserve, Wong has also held senior roles at the White House and Treasury. From 2019-2020, she was the Chief International Economist for the Council of Economic Advisers. She was at the U.S. Treasury from 2012-2016, where she served as Deputy Director of the Office of International Economic Analysis. She earned her PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago.
In August, Bloomberg Economics announced the appointment of David Wilcox as the Director of U.S. Economic Research and Bill Dudley as Senior Adviser.
Wilcox was formerly the Director of the Division of Research and Statistics at the Federal Reserve Board and an adviser to three Fed Chairs, including Ben Bernanke, Janet Yellen and Jerome Powell. He now plays a critical role in shaping Bloomberg’s analysis of the U.S. economy and will work closely with Wong.
Dudley is former President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Vice Chair of the Federal Open Market Committee. He is also a columnist for Bloomberg Opinion. He brings his policy and market expertise to Bloomberg Economics’ global coverage of monetary policy.
“We are delighted to welcome Anna Wong to Bloomberg. She is a fresh talent who brings to the role a rare mix of top-rate technical expertise and firsthand experience of US policy making at the highest levels” said Stephanie Flanders, Senior Executive Editor for Economics at Bloomberg and head of Bloomberg Economics. “There is no more important economy for Bloomberg’s clients than the US. With Anna, David Wilcox, and Bill Dudley all now adding their wisdom and experience Bloomberg Economics will have an unrivalled capacity to analyse the US economy’s path out of the pandemic and explain what it all means for policy, markets and the broader world.”
Wong will report into Tom Orlik, Chief Economist for Bloomberg Economics.
