In a 2 hour interview with Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait on Sept. 2, Putin discussed everything from a World War II-era dispute with Japan to blasting Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton for ‘shock’ campaign tactics.
The interview, conducted ahead of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostock, moved the oil market, snapping four days of price decline as Putin said he’d like Russia and OPEC to reach an output freeze while exempting Iran.
The Russian President told Bloomberg that the Democratic National Committee hack was a public service while denying Russia’s involvement. These comments prompted the Hillary Clinton campaign to accuse Putin of aiming to disrupt the U.S. election.
