For the third year in a row, Bloomberg Media Group and L’Oréal Paris convened the Women of Worth Summit, an event that celebrates and supports the achievements of women who are creating change for the better in their communities. Ten women each year are chosen as L’Oréal Women of Worth honorees – and the program is now over 120 strong, noted Karen T. Fondu, L’Oréal Paris President Emeritus and Chairwoman of L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth.
The Women of Worth Summit brings current and past honorees together with top philanthropic and communications experts for a full day of panels, workshops and conversations. The sessions foster growth and open new doors for honorees, enhancing the work they’re already doing. With 2017 Women of Worth honorees ranging in age from 17 to 71, the goals and experiences represented were diverse – and inspiring.
Bloomberg LP Deputy Chief Operating Officer Jacki Kelley and welcomed Women of Worth honorees to the Summit, held at Bloomberg headquarters in New York. “You’re in the heart of an organization that understands and appreciates what you do,” said Kelley. “Bloomberg’s commitment is to harness our own resources and also convene experts from outside to support you.”
That commitment extends beyond the Summit event. Past and present honorees also benefit from interactive webinars and expert content they can access throughout the year as part of the Bloomberg-L’Oréal Paris partnership.
At the Summit itself, Bloomberg LIVE senior programming director Shartia Brantley guided discussions that ranged from fundraising tactics to using social media and how to inspire others to action.
The afternoon included extended one-on-one and small-group “office hours” with nonprofit leaders and communications experts, including: board and fundraising consultant Amy Eisenstein; Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Jamie Staugler; Imagine Philanthropy founder and president Tuti B. Scott; leadership coach Nan Crawford; GLAM4GOOD founder Mary Alice Stephenson; SunTrust First Vice President of Foundations and Endowments Meghan Pietrantonio; and The Harnisch Foundation executive director Jennifer Raymond.
Brantley closed the day with a look back at key points that emerged at the Summit – words of wisdom that could apply to a broad range of efforts to make a difference:
Be thoughtful, be intentional, be passionate as you make your asks.
Tap into shared goals to tell your story and make maximum impact.
If you get a no, ask that person for introductions to others.
Simple steps can lead to big things.
Congratulations to all the L’Oréal Women of Worth honorees!
