New York — Bloomberg Media today announced the appointment of Mark Miller as editor of Bloomberg LIVE, the company’s live event business that leverages its multiple journalism platforms and global reach to convene influencers and generate news. Miller joins Bloomberg from Marketplace, where he was the managing editor and oversaw reporting and editing for the organization’s portfolio of radio programs and digital platforms.
At Bloomberg LIVE, he will be responsible for leading the editorial and programming strategy for Bloomberg LIVE’s annual marquee conferences, including the Markets Most Influential Summit, The Year Ahead Summit and the Bloomberg Technology Conference. In his new role, Miller will work alongside Stacy Kennedy, who leads business aspects of Bloomberg LIVE globally.
“Mark brings impressive and wide-ranging editorial experience to the role and he will be a key driver in our efforts to create unique and compelling events that have impact,” said Bloomberg Editor in Chief John Micklethwait.
“Over the past two years, we have undergone a significant transformation in the pursuit of our goal of being the leading global multi-platform business and financial media organization. The high-level events produced by Bloomberg LIVE are the centerpiece of our multi-platform media strategy, providing newsmaking content that runs across our platforms alongside compelling opportunities for advertisers,” said Bloomberg Media CEO Justin B. Smith.
“Bloomberg’s global reach and multiple platforms will allow us to develop content and experiences that resonate and inform, and I’m looking forward to joining a dynamic and innovative team to help further their success,” Miller said.
Before joining Marketplace in 2014, Miller was deputy editorial director of The Hollywood Reporter. Prior to that, he was the director of editorial operations at Newsweek and The Daily Beast under Tina Brown. He has had a long history with Newsweek, joining the magazine as a summer intern in 1985 and eventually becoming editorial director in 2009. Miller has also worked in top editorial roles at The Texas Tribune and The Dallas Morning News. He graduated from Southern Methodist University with a B.A. in history and a B.F.A in Journalism.
Bloomberg LIVE has undergone a significant transformation over the past year, opting to focus on fewer, more impactful marquee events that offer high-quality, newsmaking experiences for influential audiences, along with compelling opportunities for advertisers. Leveraging the company’s 2,400 journalists, unparalleled news resources around the world and media platforms that span digital, TV, radio and print magazines, Bloomberg LIVE conferences are a cornerstone of Bloomberg’s media strategy. This year, Bloomberg LIVE introduced a new flagship event, Breakaway, which convened a select group of CEOs and CFOs who lead businesses with significant appetite for growth. June’s Bloomberg Technology Conference in San Francisco, an annual gathering of global business leaders and tech influencers that explores the biggest issues impacting technology, featured speakers such as venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, Dropbox CEO Drew Houston, GV CEO Bill Maris and more.
On September 28th, the Bloomberg Markets Most Influential Summits will make their return to New York, London and Hong Kong. Each city will host global business and financial leaders for a day of insight, analysis and networking. The program will focus on navigating global volatility, placing bets in China, Brexit, the impact of the U.S. election, the liquidity crisis, and more. At The Year Ahead Summit on October 24th and 25th in New York, Bloomberg LIVE will tackle the most important trends, the most promising opportunities and the most troubling challenges that will impact global business and markets in 2017 and beyond. These conversations will be shaped by an invitation-only audience of leaders from a diverse array of backgrounds and industries, including CEOs and other top executives from international corporations and fast-growing businesses, academic leaders and economic experts for the world’s most prestigious universities and think tanks; influential government officials from around the world; and many others.
